18. Batch Journey Planner

18.1) What is the Batch Journey Planner?

It is an automated service we provide for anyone wanting to obtain detailed directions or statistics for a large number of journeys.

18.2) Who is it for?

We expect it will be of most interest to travel planners or employers. For example...

  • to provide a personalised home-to-work travel plan to every employee moving to new premises
  • to find out the duration, estimated CO2 and distance for each of a number of journeys

18.3) Can anyone use it and does it cost anything?

It is free of charge but you need to request login details and tell us what you are using it for. We reserve the right to refuse or block access to the batch journey planner.

18.4) How does it work?

You enter the journeys (origin, destination, date, time) into a spreadsheet template. You upload this to Transport Direct, then collect your results later. See the User Guide (opens in new window) for detailed instructions.

18.5) What journeys can the Batch Journey Planner plan?

  • Car and/or public transport - any journey within Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales)
  • Cycle planner - any journey within England and not longer than 50km
  • The origin and destination must be either a postcode or a NAPTAN (opens in new window)

18.6) How does the Batch Journey Planner protect my personal information?

We recommend that you do not use people's names in your journey plans CSV file. A unique identifier (for example, staff number or some other ID only known to yourself) is the preferred method for you to match journeys to travellers.

18.7) Is there any assistance available with evaluating the results of my batch of journey plans?
